Stay safe while we travel.

We'll talk you through these on the phone as well.

  1. 1

If there's smoke, fire or someone has had a serious shock, call 999 first.

  2. 2

If it's safe to reach, switch off the main switch at your consumer unit.

  3. 3

Don't touch damaged sockets, exposed cables or anything that's wet.

  4. 4

Whole street gone dark? Call 105, the free national power cut line, to reach your network operator.

  5. 5

Unplug appliances on the affected circuit before anything is switched back on.

Call us straight away if you notice these.

Power loss

The whole property or some circuits are dead, and it isn't a street-wide power cut.

Fuse board keeps tripping

An RCD or breaker won't stay on, or trips again the moment you reset it.

Burning smell

Scorch marks or a hot plastic smell around sockets, switches, fittings or the fuse board.

Sparking sockets

Crackling, buzzing or sparks, or sockets and switches that feel warm to the touch.

Water near electrics

A leak into light fittings, sockets or the consumer unit. Don't touch anything, just call.

Damaged wiring

Cables hit by a drill, chewed by pests or left exposed, or fittings hanging loose.

Flickering lights

Lights dimming or flickering across several rooms, especially with a buzzing sound.

Electric shock

Any tingle or shock from an appliance, switch, tap or metal surface.

Electrician in front of open distribution boards

From your call to back on.

We find the fault
